Engaging with us through our Foundations Package, Kingdom Projects contracted us to complete a grass scrape, site cut and install a Vic Roads-compliant retaining wall. A smooth project with excellent site access allowed our team to easily complete a 250m3 grass scrape and site cut, which was quickly followed by a 30LM concrete retaining wall to allow for a road to be installed. Rain and mud looked destined to slow things down not just for us but for the entire project, so our team imported and laid 80t of rock to create a temporary access road to allow other trades to continue work. The client was incredibly satisfied with the work provided by everyone involved, and the significant cost reduction offered by our Foundations Package.

Civ2Con contracted us to install over 110LM engineered concrete sleeper retaining walls for the new coastal community project. With a tight timeframe of 2 weeks, our experts began by assessing the site and quickly discovering a few challenges that needed to be overcome. The sandy conditions made site access rather challenging and had the potential for our machines to sink. On top of this, unforeseen obstacles such as old footings, rocks and bricks required us to drill 1.6 metres deep but had the potential for the hole's diameter to blow out. And lastly, a main pipe required us to work diligently and precisely to avoid an accidental rupture. Our solution was advising on using cementing around the formatube when rock drilling to minimise the cost and requirement of a bulk concrete fill to maintain structure and retain the piers. We also requested a spotter and employed constant communication to assist us in drilling around the main pipe. Another project delivered on program and on budget.

NBC Civil Constructions contracted us for a challenging project, to complete a large section of retaining walls required for the new Coles Traralgon construction project by Insitu Group. Staged in two phases, the project required us to stay on-site for the entirety of the project as we installed over 500LM of engineered concrete sleeper retaining walls, 400mm to 3.6M high. We had to install our walls before the precast walls and slabs, millimetres apart, could be placed, requiring precise planning and execution to avoid delays. Integrating footings in collaboration with Solid Foundations Concreting helped overcome an engineering mistake in the precast wall, and we had to laminate sleepers to double thickness to rectify this issue. Another project that demonstrates our unique ability to adapt quickly to changes/additions on-site, ensuring seamless completion under budget without disrupting other trades.

Prowall Construction was contracted to construct a retaining wall for a large commercial development, situated in the car park to retain the neighbouring car yard. Despite this project's strict 3-week deadline, it presented significant challenges from the outset. The unexpected discovery of two existing underground car parks required us to use our larger machine and rock breaker and drill through old footings. Careful planning was crucial to avoid hitting the groundwater table and causing pier holes to collapse. Additionally, we had to coordinate the removal, decommissioning, and demolition of an existing light pole. These challenges demanded swift action to set the walls while ensuring the site's safety and functionality.

In a collaboration with Concrete by Bayleaf, Prowall Construction was handpicked to construct a retaining wall for a new driveway, while ensuring the retention of the front driveway. This project was on a strict timeline as the dental clinic was still open for clients, and the demolition of existing footings/retaining walls and existing services were all interlocked — requiring a very precise operation. For many, this would prove to be a significant challenge, but not for our team. Once our holes were drilled, we used formatube to help hold the bored piers together and used inflowing natural groundwater to our advantage by mixing it with a rapid set, while simultaneously pouring premix concrete — allowing our piers to be at full depth. A spectacular job delivered in under 3 days.

Grab Property Group contracted us, and highlighted the importance of a fast turnaround on the construction of a timber retaining wall to retain a neighbouring property – from quote to construction before they started to pour their slab. Challenging ground conditions made site accessibility poor, so to combat this, we utilised line pumps and wood to prevent machinery and personnel from sinking. We had to work very fast to avoid pier holes collapsing in on themselves due to sandy ground conditions. We got the job done within the timeframe, without a hitch, and the client was extremely happy with the outcome!

A smooth run in terms of challenges, with ample site access allowing our team to utilise our 5.5t excavator to drill over 50 bored piers. The crucial part of this project was to retain the boundaries at the rear of the property, which would encompass the perimeter of the new tennis court being installed. The project featured over 100 lineal metres of concrete sleeper retaining walls and was completed on program and budget.

Ultimate Design and Build contracted us to install a 1.2 metre high concrete retaining wall for a Hotondo Home build. Right from the start, this project presented significant challenges such as a steep slope on the block, rural fencing making boundaries almost inaccessible, and working in close proximity to the slab, which all needed to be mapped out and overcome from the start. As many trades could not work until these walls were done and compacted fill placed behind it, time was certainly a priority for our team. With extensive surveying, we employed line pumps and excavators to carefully lower materials to a workable level. From there, we meticulously transferred points and references to ensure the precision required for this project was achieved on program and on budget.

For this residential project, the challenge was to create a multi-tiered retaining wall with many returns, providing a functional and visually appealing solution for the client. Initial challenges included tight access to the site, with only our 1.7t Kubota able to fit, a steep slope and earth sitting 3 metres high to be retained which had a multi-unit development sitting on top. To combat these challenges, our team utilised offsets & 45-degree batters to ensure that a 1-metre-high retaining wall would suffice in retaining such a high earth structure. Drilling through the siltstone of the 100m3 site proved extremely slow and challenging as it pushed the mini excavator to its limits. However, by using a combo rock drill to get through the rock, we were able to ensure the footings were at a depth that was ideal for this retaining wall. Once the site cut was complete, our team was able to install a 1-metre high retaining wall, avoid the rigorous process of permits, engineering and builders licences, and turn this unusable space into a beautiful multi-tiered space with the help of 2 x stair kits. We finished it off with some Agi Drains to ensure water wouldn’t collect on top and the new space would delight the client all year round.

Imperial Builders, an award-winning builder, contracted us to complete a retaining wall down the length of a heritage building. As this was part of an extension project, very tight access made excavation requirements challenging which was made worse with soft-wet sandy loam conditions and wintry conditions causing our machines to sink. Using top-tier communication skills, we completed the site cut and load-out/disposal of soil without issue and completed the retaining wall on program and budget.

The third of many projects we’ve completed for Ultimate Design and Build, we were contracted once again to install a timber retaining wall, but this time for an extension of an existing home. This wall proved difficult as existing fencing was in close proximity to the boundary line. Services such as sewerage and stormwater were also likely to be damaged as they passed through pier holes to be drilled. To overcome these obstacles, our experienced team located all connected services at risk and utilised an A + B style excavation – only excavating where the pier holes were to be drilled. This ensured that the fence had as much support during construction without collapse, and we also propped these fences for maximum strength.

This residential project involved creating a sub-dividing wall between two townhouses, along with retaining walls on each property to maximise their backyard space. The design included several returned and staggered walls to complement the natural fall landscape. Due to the complexity and scope of the project, it was completed in two stages as requested by the builder, and the result was exactly what the build wanted – seamlessly tying the landscape of the two houses together, enhancing their overall appeal and functionality.

Bemax Group contracted us to install a concealed retaining wall for one of their housing projects in Toorak. With a tight 10-day timeline and significant challenges from the start, we successfully constructed the wall within the fence, ensuring a seamless finish for cladding post-construction. Initial difficulties included a concrete slab that had already been laid and a pool in place, while soft conditions around the area required meticulous and precise drilling. Weight limits were also crucial due to the basement below, and the concrete slab's overpour nearly reached the fence, adding to the complexity. Our solution involved using 100x100mm galvanised posts and laminating channels to conceal the wall, with welded frames providing the strength for James Hardy cladding on both sides. This approach preserved the boutique build's aesthetic while overcoming significant challenges on budget and on program.

M&E Homes contracted us to install a 90LM retaining wall along all the boundaries of this multi-unit build, while also using a retaining wall as a sub-dividing wall specifically for unit two. No on-site contacts meant we had to maximise communication to confirm surveying and locations of services and get everything passed by the building surveyor within the timeframe. The first unit was already built before we arrived, and services were installed for both units, which made access quite challenging – but the Prowall team was more than up to the task. Provisions for additional retaining walls were also in place to be completed at a later date. So, watch this space for more.

More than satisfied with Prowall’s work on the Chum Chum Road project, Ultimate Design and Build contracted us again to install timber retaining walls as part of a new residential build. With work already underway, the retaining wall needed to be installed much later into the project than usual, which presented significant challenges. As it was a complex multi-level build, the retaining walls needed to hold the driveway, while on the opposite side of the garage to hold the stairs. This meant that piers of at least 3.5M deep had to be drilled in fill material to ensure they had enough strength to withstand the varying loads of cars and pedestrians above. Our solution was to bring in our large 4.5t machine to make light work out of a difficult challenge and employ our expert team to minimise risks and avoid potential hazards. Another successful project on the books.
